M. David Alexander, Chair, Department of Educational Leadership
and Policy Studies, College of Human Resources and Education,
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, received
his Ed.D. in educational administration from Indiana University
in 1969. He joined Virginia Tech in 1972 after having taught
at Western Kentucky University and Indiana University and has
been a full professor since 1985.
He has taught graduate courses on subjects that include public
school and higher education law, school business management and
facilities financing. He has conducted studies for national,
state, and local educational agencies, including the National Educational
Finance Project, the U.S. Department of Education, the Virginia
State Department of Education, and the legislatures of Arkansas,
West Virginia, and Indiana.
Dr. Alexander's honors include the College of Education's
Distinguished Service Award and the Leadership Award of the Virginia
Association of School Business Officials. He has served on many
university and college committees, as well as the committees
and boards of professional organizations, including the American
Educational Finance Association, the National Organization on
Legal Problems of Education, Americans United for Separation
of Church and State, and the Virginia Association of School Business
Officials.
A co-author of four books, Alexander has also written numerous
research reports and articles, many of which have been presented
at regional, national, and international meetings.
